Three years ago, I never really thought this moment would ever arrive –the moment Let's Talk Fashion would be ending due to graduation as I start a new, exciting chapter in my life. I remember the exact day I thought up the brilliant idea of a fashion column inspired by how much I admired the Snapshot Series in Teen Vogue that featured young Fashionistas, their favorite designers and where they purchased the outfits they were wearing in their classic street style pose. Having a fashion column in The Highlander has been a dream come true. The main reason I had intended to write Let's Talk Fashion was to be able to create a voice for the underlying fashion scene at Misericordia. I never really imagined that this column would lead me to amazing opportunities and a future career in...Jewerely Designer and Fashion Follower

Heather Marsicano isn’t just a junior communications major at MU. She has a list of outstanding accomplishments already under her belt: a degree in photography, service as a volunteer firefighting for the past 10 years, and a serious case of style. Two years ago, she added a new role to her list: jewelry designer. Miss Heather’s Signature Spinneries has officially opened on Etsy and it’s time for all to see Marsicano’s unique style. Having a class with Marsicano this semester, I became a loyal fan of her gothic style and the way she expresses it with dainty bows, skull cameos, and unexpected dresses. It’s always refreshing to see a fashion sense unlike any other and the fact that her hair is partially dyed hot pink—my favorite color—made me like her even more. It didn’t hurt...The in's and out's of new trends

Having an immense interest in fashion at a young age, I’ve always wondered how companies decided what’s “in” and what’s “out” for the next season ahead. I’ve glanced the glossy pages of Vogue to glimpse the latest styles, but by the time fashion followers are given their season preview, it’s already too late to plan your purchases. It’s obvious most would say Fashion Week is the ultimate deciding factor on this issue, but after the experience I had, I‘d beg to differ. Through one of my internships I was given the opportunity to experience fashion forecasting first-hand. Walking into a giant building with colorfully designed stations lined with premium clothing, endless amounts of shoes, elegant gowns, and accessories that could last a lifetime was a little breathtaking. Seeing a few...NYFW live, online

Everyone and anyone who has a stake in fashion attend the weeklong line of shows at New York Fashion Week. If you didn’t already know, Anna Wintour, Vogue editor-in-Chief always gets a front row seat usually flanked by musicians, actors and other celebrities. Fashion shows are no longer just about clothing, but attention is also on the front row gossip and sarcastic smiles that hit the pages of The New York Times Style section. Did you hear George Lucas sat next to Dakota Fanning at the Rodarte Show? Both Racked and Fashionista reported this occurrence, and I’m sorry to say, if that’s the most exciting thing that happened during fashion week, then I suggest a change up. Since he’s the former director of Star Wars and a huge fan of Rodarte, maybe we could see...Fashion for a cause

Over the past few years, fashion has taken on a new form of paying it forward in exceptional ways through fair trade organizations. While fashion followers are still waiting for their chance (and cash) to get their hands on a Birkin bag or gawking over a new Jason Wu for Target collaboration, it’s time to glance at fashion’s latest humanitarian organizations and where you can find items that fit your budget and create awareness of a cause. As a Fashionista with a shoe obsession, I tend to love checking out what other students’ feet are wearing. I’ve noticed that TOMS in particular have taken over the college scene. But, that’s a good thing. TOMS “One for One” deal would make you not think twice about buying five pairs of Glitters,...
