Students from all over the east coast are gathered around the ‘comfort food’ that the Communications camp at Misericordia University provided for its 22 campers. It’s common for students to find relief in food when they are away from home, they say. Brianna Rafferty compared her high school café food to Misericordia’s fare. ”We don’t have a salad bar, but the set meals are about the same.”

The first night all campers had the choice of a hot meal that consisted of chicken parmesan, penne pasta, and wild rice. There was even a salad bar available and a dessert cart that would satisfy any sweet tooth, including rising high school senior Macey Fulmer’s. “I took my ice cream cone, smashed it up, and sprinkled it on my ice cream.” Although Rafferty feels there should be a few more options, especially at dinner in the dining hall. Sarah Hite, senior at Misericordia, found an appetizing alternative during the school year. “I commute so I eat at the Cougars Den. They have food made to order, there are more choices and its fresher.”

Students may have expected a four star restaurant treatment, but not all entrée stations are open to the campers. During the school year Misericordia offers J. Clark’s Grill that provides hamburgers, hot dogs, and french fries every day. Bravo rotates ethnic food ranging from fajitas to egg rolls. There is also a salad bar for the green scene called Salad Works, which also offer soup. Along with the salad bar there is a made-to- order deli line.

The Communications Campers may not have the privilege of being pampered with elite cuisine, but sophomore Michele Drago has a love hate relationship with the menu. “When I’m here I get sick of the food, but when I’m at home I miss it. It’s tasty and there are a lot of options.”
