The Misericordia Players kicked off their “Murder and Mayhem” season with the murder-mystery play, Agatha Christie’s “The Hollow”.

The play, set on an English country estate in the 1930s, opens with Lady Angkatell, played by freshman Danielle Lachall, Sir Henry Angkatell, played by junior Russ Heerkens, and Henrietta Angkatell, played by freshman Mary Scarpa, inviting family and friends to their estate for a quiet weekend in the country.

The play takes a turn when the Angkatell’s family friend, Dr. John Christow, played by junior George Pierce, is suddenly murdered in the Garden Room of the Angkatell’s estate. Inspector Colquhoun, played by junior David Swanson, and Detective Sergeant Penny, played by sophomore Jeff Kelly, are then responsible for finding the true killer of John Christow. The audience was thrown a curve-ball and the insertion of various love-triangles made it difficult to figure out the true murderer.

“The Hollow” also starred freshmen David Baker as Gudgeon the Butler, freshman Shana Weinstock as Veronica Craye, Sophomore Matthew Buckman as Edward Angkatell, junior Rebecca Schaller as Midge, senior Rachel Thompson as Gerda Christow, and senior Elizabeth Guarnieri as Doris the maid.

The Misericordia Players were under the direction of Don Hopkins. He was assisted by Stage Crew Manager Arielle Orsulak and Prop Crew Chief Jill Rafferty. The stage crew consisted of Michelle Anzalone, Bernadette Sudock, Rachel Orehotsky, Russell Heerkens, Caitlin Hails, George Pierce, Kayla Starch, Jackie Politio, Matthew Buckman, Amanda Radishofski, and Browning Sterner. Costumes were provided by Audrey Ide. The lights and sound were operated by Browning Sterner and Ashley Pavil respectively.

The play was performed in the newly renovated Lemmond Theater, formerly Walsh Auditorium, at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 20 through Saturday, Nov. 22. Tickets were sold for $5 for adults and $3 for seniors and students.

Students appeared to enjoy the play. “It was completely amazing and the talented actors and actresses of Misericordia made it worthwhile,” said freshmen Nick Durling.
