MU Swimmers Dive into Season

The men’s and women’s swim teams are hoping to build on last year’s swimming success.

Last year’s second place finish for the women seems to be a distant memory for the team, which is 3-1 with one loss to Kutztown. The women have a full roster with 24 swimmers, including seven freshmen and two seniors.

In the other lane, the MU men’s team is pulling out all the cards for this season. The team lost five members last year but gained six new swimmers, four freshman and two transfer students. The greatest gain this off-season goes to the men’s team in recruiting Mitch Finch from Virginia. Finch has already set the 100 and 200 yard backstroke records, one of which was previously held by assistant coach Eddie Halloran.

Many of the guys are excited about the potential they have to compete for the top spot in the Mid-Atlantic Conference (MAC) championships in February. “The guys’ team is very close this year, probably closer than previous years. We know how to push each other and get maximum effort every day,” says Captain Jeff Clark.

The women are also pushing to be their very best, and they believe they have the chance to make history for MU swimming: win the first ever team championship in the MAC.

“After seeing the Men’s soccer team and how excited they were after they won the championship, we want that to be our moment, when we hold the first place trophy,” says sophomore Crissy Condus.
