After an 8-1-1 record in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) last year and a 13-6-1 overall record, the MU men’s soccer team is moving into the Mid-Atlantic Conference (MAC).  The MAC is from top to bottom very competitive.   MU is in the Freedom conference within the MAC this year.

“We expect to compete this year, and that never changes,” said Coach Chuck Edkins.  “These guys are just exciting to watch. They should draw a lot of attention. They mix talent and hard work - both of which you need to succeed.”

The MU men’s team is currently picked fourth in the Freedom Poll.  “We don’t mind doing the chasing,” Edkins said.  The level of competition in the Freedom conference is strong and equal.  The toughest competition for MU this season will be Eastern, DeSales, Wilkes and Kings according to the rankings, which are done on a point scale.

DeSales is the three-time defending champion ranked at 66 points, leading the Freedom conference, followed by Eastern at 65; Wilkes at 60; and MU at 53.

Kings and Wilkes will be playing MU not only for local bragging rights, but now a place in the playoffs.

Coach Edkins thinks the other teams should be ready.

“Keep looking over your shoulder, we will be coming.”

Joining the Soccer staff is Matt Pucci of Libertyville, Illinois. He has been named a graduate assistant coach of the team.

Four all-conference selection are key returning players on this years team including Max Campbell, this year’s player to watch and last year’s PAC player of the year, Tyler Mensch, Joe Scanlon and Tyler Anderson.
